How do misting systems work?
Our commercial misting systems use 1000 psi high pressure pumps to force water through a misting nozzle with a .008 size orifice. The atomization lines that surround your desired area blow a fine mist to create a curtain of cool air around your patio. The small water molecules transform with the outside heat energy and flash evaporate cooling the ambient air temperature. Misting systems work best in low humidity and can cool an average of 15-30 degrees. The best cooling we have ever recorded was 34 degrees. Although this much cooling is not always common, it does happen. As the humidity levels increase the cooling effect does lower. With our high pressure pumps and specially designed nozzles, the fine mist particles are able to cool the air without getting everything around you wet. All of our systems can also be adjusted to create more or less mist to accommodate different requests. Misting systems can also work well in high humidity. We simply have to design the system differently by using misting fans to disperse the mist throughout a larger area. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the office. One of our representatives will be happy to answer any question you may have.
How much water does a misting system actually use?
Water usage will vary depending on the size of the system and the number of nozzles. A typical 50’ system with nozzles spaced 24” apart using a .008 orifice nozzle will use approximately ½ gallon of water per minute. As a simple rule of thumb each .008 nozzle pressurized at 1000 psi will use approximately one gallon of water per hour.
What do I do if my misting system won't start?
The most common problem we see is the gardener has turned the water off to the pump system. Every pump system Arctic Fog, Inc. sells is equipped with a low water pressure safety sensor. This sensor detects when the water is turned off or is dangerously low and will not allow the pump system to run. Once pressurized water is restored to the pump this sensor will allow the system to run.
Can you add nozzles to our existing misting system?
All of our systems are upgradable. The tubing we install has a lifetime warranty and we have no problem adding to it. Keep in mind the size of your pump. Nozzles and lines can be added as long as you have a pump that is sized accordingly. Pump upgrades are also available, along with custom tree clusters and special fogging effects.
